Small businesses

A site that says what you do, where, and how to start, on a platform you will not have to babysit.

A short job

A small business site has a short job: what you offer, where you are if location matters, your hours if hours matter, how to start, and a contact that reaches a person. The owner usually updates it twice a year and does not have time to learn a complicated system.

What the site has to do

  • Say what you sell or do, in the words your customers use.
  • Show how to start: call, book, visit, or send a request.
  • Keep hours and contact details current, with one place to change them.
  • Link to the booking or payment tool you already use, if you have one.

Platform and size

WordPress is often the right tool, because you or someone you hire can edit it. Drupal is the right tool when there is a catalog, a customer login, or a workflow that would otherwise become a pile of plugins. Sometimes a single page is enough, and we will say so. We will not propose a membership portal or a custom application for a business that needs a clear public page.

Upkeep

Care, if you want it, is updates, backups, and small edits. A new campaign or a new section is a separate note. You can also take the site and run it yourself.

What you can look at

LSCalado has not published a small business client. The website service describes what a project includes.
