Community organizations
This week's information
A neighborhood association, a congregation's public program, or a volunteer group usually needs one thing from its website: this week's information in one place. The meeting on Tuesday, the cleanup on Saturday, the new address, the person to call. Today that information often lives in a group chat that half the members are not in. The reader is on a phone. The editor is a volunteer, and next year it may be a different volunteer.
What the site has to do
- Show this week's meetings and shifts at the top of the page.
- Let someone say "I can take Saturday" without making an account.
- Give the coordinator one simple screen to correct a date.
- Show a contact that reaches the coordinator without publishing a personal phone number.
- Work for older members and in bright sun: large text, obvious links, enough contrast.
What we will not assume
A full membership system is the wrong default. A list of shifts, a way to volunteer for one, and a page a coordinator can correct is often the whole product. If you grow into dues and a directory, that can be a later scope with the membership service. We also write a one-page note for the next coordinator.
What you can look at
LSCalado has not published a community organization client. The volunteer board is a working concept of the smaller version, with invented shifts for an invented neighborhood group. Nothing you enter on it is sent anywhere.
